#FridayAfternoonThought
I found myself squealing 'Yes!' - er, much to the bemusement of my fellow train travellers..
Something I had known, encouraged and practised instinctively and intentionally for years, finally was given a name. Woo hoo.
"Social productivity". What is it? Well, what it isn't, is "work productivity" - all those tasks we complete as part of our output.
Social productivity is all about people (that topic I bang on about rather a lot), relationships and the culture you work in, with and for. To quote T Vera and M Franklin: "the creation of the culture of your team by spending time together, understanding each other's motivations and priorities."
So, Yes! We are not robots. Without the social productivity, the work productivity is less effective, more exhausting and less brave.
Simple things can be a good start -
- really listen and respond when you ask someone about their weekend/dog/event...
- Take a break at the same time as other people and chat
- Make an informal arrangement for a regular lunch together..
- or whatever works for you.
You will all benefit by having some level of personal relationship with colleagues.
Your work problems and opportunities can be resolved faster because you're not starting from cold.
Have you worked in environments where this was frowned upon or encouraged? What difference did it make?
Photo of a trustee board away day I facilitated a couple of weeks ago. (with permission). Working in threes before going off on a 'walk and talk'. They came back with "THE" answers!
If you'd like some of those "yes!" moments, do get in touch to see whether I could help you with all things strategy, change leadership, facilitation and coaching.
